Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The gospel is the message that God will give us pardon from our sins and eternal life with Him in heaven, if we will turn away from our sins and turn to Him, accepting His Son, Jesus Christ, as our Savior and Lord. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). This simple message is for the entire world.
So what's the best method for sharing the good news? I can't really give you a perfect answer. It depends on your personality, their situation, and His leading. But I can tell you what the best message is…the gospel! Memorize it, personalize it and then contextualize it to whatever situation you are in and whatever method you choose to use.
- Don’t be afraid!
- Trust in the Holy Spirit: you can only plant the seed, the Holy Spirit will do the rest of the work of God!
- Keep it simple!
- ADMIT that we are helpless sinners in desperate need of a Savior.
- BELIEVE that Jesus is God’s son, and He came to save us.
- CALL upon the name of the Lord, our Creator, by confessing your sins and repent of them. — To repent means "to let go of something." We do this when we put our trust and faith in Jesus and turn the direction of our lives over to Him. That means turning away from our old, sinful lifestyles and being willing to change and become a different person.
I admit that I am a sinner and I can’t save myself. I believe you died on the cross for me. I call upon you as my Savior. Please forgive my sin and make me part of your family. I commit myself to you now and forever.”
As we walk and talk with Jesus Christ in our heart and lives, and as we begin to read His Word, we begin to see things the way Jesus does. We have new eyes because we have been born again. Finally, the ultimate reward is salvation; comfort in knowing we will go to Heaven to be with our Creator when we die.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
